What Is It
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is a multi-step account login process that requires users to enter more information than just a password. Examples of multi-factor authentication are:
- One-time passwords or codes
- Something you know, such as a password, passphrase or personal identification number (PIN)
- Something you have, such as a token or smartcard
- Something you are, such as a biometric like a fingerprint
