How to Map Network Share Drives

To access network shares, the drive has to be "mapped".

For Windows 10:
    Press the Windows key + E to open a File Explorer window
    Choose “This PC” from the left side of the window
    Click the “Computer” tab across the top
    Click the “Map Network Drive” button

Fill in the path to the drive in the “Folder” text box as shown in the below example.

     Home Drive (J)                     \\fs01.it.farmingdale.edu\home\your_username
     Other Network Shares         \\fs02.it.farmingdale.edu\groups\your_networkshare

Put a check mark in both boxes as shown.  Click Finish.

Enter your network credentials as shown below:  your_username@farmingdale.edu

To create a shortcut of your network share on the desktop, in “This PC”, right click on your network share in Network locations and drag it out to the desktop.
Once you let up on the right mouse button, choose “Create shortcuts here”.
 

* When you are done using the network share drive for the day, choose Map network drive and choose Disconnect network drive.  The drive will disappear from the File Explorer.
